(I am typing this with toothpicks holding my eyes open.)
There is no “sugar” coating it, the first week, especially the first few days are tough. Your body is used to having caffeine and sugar so without them it begins to experience withdrawal symptoms. I have had a mild headache, some random body pains, and in general a low energy level since I began. This morning I woke with pain in my left jaw line that radiated out to my left ear lobe . My ear lobe literally hurt to the touch. However none of these aches and pains seems to last more than an hour. When you read the literature surrounding the program, they talk about detoxifying the body first and then “cleaning” your intestines. (Im sure you can gather what that means).
At one point on Tuesday, Heather called me to tell me she was going home to go back to bed. She also has been fighting a migraine since the beginning part of the week. I have to assume its all related, especially since she enjoys diet coke. (Aspartame is literally the devil.) As I said to her, its a little bit scary to think about how accustomed we are to operating on a half tank. We, especially myself, accept the fatigue, skin break outs, body aches as just part of living and getting older. Somehow we have become used to existing at a “crappy” level of energy. How toxic were we?!
The good news is that I have not been hungry. On this program, you are encouraged to eat every 3-4 hours. In fact, sometime during Tuesday I felt bloated from all my water intake and just plain full between snacks and shakes. I have not weighed myself yet, nor are you encouraged to until the end of the week. I have noticed already though that my skin seems to be a little brighter. I am also having no issue popping out of bed in the morning. On Wednesday Heather noted that she did not sleep very well from her migraine. She is also craving Chik-Fil-A, chocolate, and all the things! Ha! Fingers crossed we start to turn the corner heading into the weekend. Although I am fairly certain we will.
Side note: My friend Mere started the program a week before me. (therefore technically putting her into week two.) . Guys, Im not lying when I say she is a luminous, chipper beacon. She scooted by me at preschool this morning and her skin was radiant. She also told me she ran 6, yes 6 miles yesterday and was feeling great! All good things to come!
